I have been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer Osteosarcoma, and have just started the MAP chemotherapy last tue 20-SEP-2022 (First dose of doxorubicin and cisplatin), last adminstered Thu morning 22-SEP-2022

This week I have experienced increased pain and inflamination in the tumour area and am just wondering if this happened with anyone else, and how long it took to settle down (If it did eventually)

  • Hi , I see it’s your first post so welcome to the Online Community although I am sorry to see you joining us.

Chemo treatments can be ever so different across different cancer types so it would be helpful for you to talk with others who are on the exact same cancer and treatment journey.

The Community is divided into support groups (discussion rooms) so can I suggest that you consider joining our supportive Bone cancer group. This is a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

  • Thanks for the reply, this has now been moved.

if anyone else has experienced similar symptoms with different chemos / cancers then please feel free to make a comment

  • Hi again, I will say that I have a completely different cancer (blood cancer) with a totally different chemo and I had significant pain in my growth area.

My consultant did worn me to expect pain in my mass area as my mass had enclosed nerves and muscles…… as the mass started to break down the nerves and muscles started to stretch developing intense pain…… this went on all the way through treatment and for a period of time after treatment was completed.

Are you on G-CSF Injections  - FILGRASTIM or similar as this can cause bone pain especially in the lower back.

  • Ah ok, so even though mine is a different cancer it has enclosed nerves which may explain the pain similar to yours. So fingers crossed it is having the desired effect

  • It may well be the case and over the years I have talked with many who have experienced the same problems.
