Hi there, I have been told yesterday by my oncologist that my white blood cell count is low and I won’t be able to carry on with my chemotherapy treatment unless it picks up. They think it maybe the Docetaxel chemotherapy that has caused it to be low. Has anyone else been in this situation and was you given any advice on how to improve you blood count.

Wishing you all well

Maxine

  • Hi Maxine , sorry to hear this but low White Blood counts is rather normal with many types of chemotherapy not just with Docetaxel.

I have a rare blood cancer and this happened to me multiply times over my various treatments. Consultants tend to look for your WBC to come back by it’s own and there is not much you can do to help this apart from eating a good health diet….. but your team my consider using G-CSF Injections to help your WBC along if required.

I see you have been posting in our Gullet (oesophagus) cancer group. As different chemo types have different journeys it would be worth posting in this group as well ((hugs))

  • Thank you for you reply. I feel like my Oncologist wants me to throw the towel in again. All he seems to want me  to do is stop my treatment. I will stay positive and next time hopefully when I see my oncologist I will have positive news.

    Wishing you all the best

    Maxine xx
