Having my Picc line fitted before chemo 2.

Anyone else got picc lines fitted any tips ?

  • Had my MRSA swabs today and was given a bottle of chlorhexidine to wash daily with for 5 days including my hair before having my Picc line inserted next week. Anyone else been given a bright bottle of this stuff?

  • No not given anything to wash in.

  • No I didn't get anything.

  • Looks like it's just me. It's like a surgical scrub to help prevent infection. Hope it doesn't react with my sensitive skin.

  • Just had mine fitted this morning All went okay, pretty straight forward, took about an hour and they gave me lots of info on how to look after it. Feels a bit weird having this thing in my arm, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I think it will make things easier for us as they won't have to put a canula in every time for chemo now and they can use the PICC for our blood tests too, so no bad thing really.

  • I’m having a picc line fitted November 21st and am so scared, I’m also freaking out at the fact that once it is in I can’t take it out, it’s like stuck in there until the end, it’s making me quite anxious actually even though I know it’s for the best x

  • Had mine since August don't worry its painless it's a godsend.I have treatment and blood tests without needles now no more bruising. You get use to it after a couple of weeks.A V pillow in bed I recommend  to rest your arm on.Good luck and don't worry Wink

  • Hello  I felt exactly the same, but having had this thing in my arm for a couple of months now, you do get used to it. It's funny what you adapt to! It's not half as bad as you think it's going to be, in fact, now with the value of hindsight I can honestly say it doesn't bother me at all now. Don't get me wrong I can't wait until I can have a soak in the bath with both arms in the water!
