  • Hi . I had a PICC line in for my cancer for a few months. Didn't have a problem with it. Takes about half an hour to get in, but that is with the preparation. Painless going in. You usually then go for a quick chest x-ray to make sure it is positioned correctly. It is covered with a dressing when not in use. They will tell you how to care for it. The most important is not to get it wet. You can get fancy covers for it and waterproof ones for the shower. I just wrapped my arm in clingfilm when bathing. I also bought a roll of tubigrip (Elastic bandage) and cut a fresh piece off every day  to keep things tidy. They need to be flushed out by a nurse once a week, but again painless. They can also be used for taking blood which does away with the needles. Besides heavy lifting and anything too strenuous, you can carry on as normal. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • How did your Picc line fitting go? I found out yesterday that I have to have one fitted on Monday and am so scared.

  • Don't worry the procedure is painless and picc line much better than cannula and needles.

    Good luck Thumbsup

  • How did you get on living with it? The whole idea freaks me out. Astonished

  • First week was a bit sore but learning to live with it now.

  • I'm having a PICC line fitted next week. How do people find doing exercise with it in? Not that I have much energy to exercise, but I like to do yoga and I'm thinking with all that overhead stretching and downward dogs, will it still be possible with a PICC line in?

  • I had one fitted on Monday. It wasn't to bad but x-ray showed it's not in the right place so they are leaving it a week before checking again.

Was told no large over head moments e.g. golf, tennis, decorating so not sure about yoga best to ask them.

It's not to bad once in if you don't mind the idea of it and really not that painful. Personally Am still a little freaked out by it but am a wimp.... JoyRoflJoyRofl

  • Thanks  I'm a bit freaked out about having this thing in my body. I'll ask their advice but it sounds like I'm going to have to change my movements in yoga. It's the only thing keeping me sane at the momeRolling eyes Rolling eyes

  • Just remember it's a means to an end. Grin
