Hey, has anyone had problems drinking enough in the days after treatment? Drinking any more than a tiny sip makes my throat and roof of my mouth feel weird and the result is I get quite dehydrated in the first few days each cycle. Hot drinks are easier but still not great. Any advice would be brilliant.
Hi Andy2559,
Don’t know what chemotherapy you’re receiving but if it is Oxaliplatin then your mouth can go into spasm when exposed to the cold, including cold drinks. I didn’t particularly suffer from spasms but my tongue did feel as though it was bubbling (for about 1 minute) when I drank for the first 2/3 days after the infusion – the same thing happened with room temperature drinks but I could manage warm drinks. I’m sure you know it’s important to keep hydrated, so do persevere. You could also take something like Dioralyte or St Marks’s Solution to help combat dehydration, however, I don’t think either should be drunk warm.
Best Wishes,
