I am on day 10 of Capecitabine and suffering with dreadful nausea. It’s hard to get all the tablets down when I feel this sick. Has anyone spaced out the tablets over an hour or so and does it matter ?
Hi Starsa
I have been taking capecitabine for nearly 11 months. I dont have nausea with it but was prescribed anti sickness meds in case - have the hospital prescribed them for you? Maybe they have but are not holding the sickness - so maybe you need to talk to your oncology team. As for spacing out the tablets - you are supposed to take them within 30 mins of food, so I guess over an hour, as long as you eat with each tablet, it wouldnt make a huge impact. Hard to eat when you are nauseous though. You have my sympathies - hopefully now you are on day 10, only 4 days before you get your week off.( 2 days now I see you posted 2 days ago).
And I cannot recommend ginger highly enough when dealing with nausea - sipping a ginger tea or cordial really helps - good luck and lets hope the capecitabine is doing its job for you.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. It’s just lovely to hear from another human who has been through the same thing.
I’m on the third anti-sickness now so hoping that works.
Only two more days to go. Do you find you get some respite from side effects on your week off?
Glad to hear it was helpful just to have a reply even if i didnt have anything much use to offer. My side effects are mainly sore hands and feet and watery eyes. The hands and feet go a weird purple on the palms and underside of feet. However I have found that e45 3 times per day helps, and every other day I have a bath with loads of bath salts and a few drops of essential oil, really helps to ease the soreness. One week off doesnt seem to offer much change, but i have occasionally asked for 2 weeks off for a break and that does seem to help.
Hope the third lot of anti sickness helps, or maybe your body just gets more used to it,
x
