Good evening
My chemo regime is 6 cycles carboplatin and paclitaxel once every 3 weeks , the infusion is about 8 hours from bloods to last port flush.
I've only just had my second cycle. The first cycle was ok , I had cramping tummy , gripes and s few days where I felt very hung over , minus the party.
This cycle , which I had 6 days ago has been fairly mild again, I've in fact felt a bit of a fraud and am just wondering when the side effects will kick in. I have started getting numb toes, my stomach has gone into spasm and my bowels are loose, but if I take the prescribed meds it sorts me out.
I'm just wondering , will I suddenly get ill , when will the worst hit , is it working ?? Are the symptoms lurking around the corner ?) My consultant said many of his women sail through chemo compared to the operation (ovarian cancer)
Hi Cantbelieveimhere. Maybe not the right person to answer. Firstly, I am male. Also, I had cisplatin rather than carboplatin, but I believe both drugs are similar. I know what you mean about anticipating what may happen. I was always expecting some nasty side effects but in reality, nothing bad happened. A few queasy days and a bit of numbness in the toes, but nothing that wiped me out and I carried on as normal. After the treatment, I had bouts of fatigue for a while, but that faded. We know these platinum based drugs can affect your hearing, so let your team know if you notice any change. I had mild tinnitus for a while, but again that passed. One tip I was given by my oncologist, these drugs can cause mouth sores and I was advised to rinse with a good quality mouth wash several times a day to prevent these. Seemed to work for me. I hope all goes well for you and you do sail through it. Best wishes.
Hi Rily , thank you for your support and reply . It's reassuring to hear your story, I just feel my cycles are bit like Russian roulette.
I have been asked to use mouth wash but actually forgot, so thank you for the reminder.
I have been told it gets accumulative , but am hoping I also sail through it as the operation and recovery were pretty brutal.
All the best for your tips and info on your experience.
