Contraception After Chemo

Hi All,

Advice please!!!!

Before I started chemo, I went through 2 weeks of fertility treatment and got my eggs frozen. I came off the contraceptive pill too.

During chemo I have had 3x lucrin injections to try and preserve my ovaries, and this has put me in a premenopausal state. Im hoping this is reversed after chemo and if so, I  want to go back onto contraception, but Im not sure what type is best.

Some doctors say the POP pill (which I was previously on) isn't good after chemo and suggest the MIrena.

However, Ive read that the Mirena isn't good for people who have breast cancer in the family (my mother had it) .

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

  • Hi . I just dropped by and noticed you've not had an answer to your question as yet. As none of us here are medically trained it might be best if you contacted a nurse on the Macmillan Support helpline, the freephone number is shown below. I'm sure they'll be able to offer advice about contraception - I'm well past that stage in my life!

Wishing you all the best with your treatment.

    Hugs, B x
