I was due to go for my 12th round of chemo tomorrow but the Doctor phoned me today to state my white blood cell count was to low at 0.3 App if it is below one the chemo can not take place. Told me it should come up naturally over the next week.
Has this happened to anybody else.
Thanks
Hi Craigavon. It is not unusual to have chemo delays owing to low bloods. It happened to me twice. It's a question that comes up regularly on here. In extreme cases, they can prescribe meds to raise the count, but in general, they prefer to let things improve naturally. I was told the odd delay doesn't have much effect on overall treatment. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi Craigavon, most likely I have a different type of cancer (Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma - a blood cancer) and most likely a different type of chemo but yes, this happened to me a number of times.
Your blood counts need to be a my good level to go forward with treatment. If you have more chemo when you have low blood counts this could actually be rather dangerous and open you up to become Neutropenic and therefore very open to serious infections….. my delays never made any real difference to the treatment outcomes - all the best.
