Hi Everyone,
just after some advice please my mums currently having filgrastim injections daily and it’s giving her very bad back/kidney pains.
I took her to A&E when she had her first round of these as she was in agony and I thought maybe she had an infection l, but her consultant confirmed there was no infection but that the pain was just side effects from the injections.
we started the injections again 3 days ago and today she’s getting pin anyone know of any home remedies or things she could use to help the pain please?
mums currently having Vinorelbine and Cisplatin chemotherapies
any advice will be extremely appreciated x
Yes..really bad back pain and aches. Did improve. I took pain killers which helped.
I was on injections once a day for 4 months following my second Stem Cell Transplant..... I did them after breakfast every morning. I took a few Paracetamol with breakfast then did the injection.
I had no real bone pain and I was told that this was down to my team prescribing Piriton or Clarityn Antihistamine as this bizarrely stopped the pain developing, these were taken as per the dose instructions - worth talking your team about this as not a lot of hospitals do this ((hugs))
I had similar when self administering injections over 5 days following my chemo. I experienced really strong stomach pains - think childbirth levels - following every injection & ended up with trips to A&E. My oncologist swapped the daily injections for just one slow release injection on the day afternoon chemo which has been a huge improvement. I load myself up with paracetamol & ibuprofen and do the injection now and have no side effects
Insist on adequate pain relief. If the pain is bad enough for someone to go to the ED, then it's bad enough for something more than paracetamol and ibuprofen to be given. Nothing should ever be dismissed as "just" side effects if it's causing a patient distress.
I only had a single injection on day 5 of my cycle, but I'd read about taking loratadine to prevent bone pain so I took that every cycle. The evidence about its effectiveness is divided, but my team were of the opinion that it couldn't hurt.
