I am a 53 year old woman suffering with extreme hot and cold sweats. I am between my 3rd and 4th chemo session and am finding these sweats unbearable. My body is freezing but my head is burning and running with water, then my whole body ends up sweating uncontrollably. Does anybody have this? Could this be a side effect and if anyone has experienced, any tips? Thank you

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to read that you're suffering with extreme hot and cold sweats. I haven't had chemotherapy but have found this information for you about side effects from chemotherapy. From what I've read on the community you should have been given a 24-hour contact number for your hospital so that you can speak to someone if you're experiencing side effects. If you haven't already, it would probably be a good idea to phone them today.

As the chemotherapy group is fairly quite you might like to also join and post in the cancer group specific to your cancer. I had a peek at your profile to see what type of cancer you're being treated for but you haven't completed it yet. If you click here it will take you to a list of groups which you could look through.

When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Hi Wiggypego,

I had 5 cycles of cisplatin, and I certainly got the sweats from time to time.  It used to absolutely pour off me if I did anything remotely active!  Usually it was for the first couple of days after treatment, and then it went away again.
