My wife is having treatment with carboplatin for ovarian cancer, and a side effect is that she has bad tinnitus, loud enough to wake her up in the middle of the night.
Is this common, and is there anything that can be done about it?
Hi, during treatment for cervical cancer I developed tinnitus I still have it now but it isn't as bad as it was. Someone I met during treatment had it really bad like your wife and am sure something was tweeked within her treatment. It would be worth mentioning to her oncologist and see what they say as it is a side effect of treatment.
Hi TimeEnough. The Platinum based drugs (platin) are known to cause hearing problems. I suffered with tinnitus for several months after my chemo. I saw an ENT specialist who told me there is not a lot they can do for it. It gradually subsided, but now a few years down the line it still comes and goes, but not as severe. Nigh times are the worst as there is nothing else going on to distract you. I agree with Haribo above in that your wife needs to talk to the medics to see if they can adjust the medication. I hope all works out well. Best wishes.
