Hi all, happy Easter to you all.  I have had 4 of 8 cycles of Capecitabine chemo.  My Oncologist said it was advisable to have this to reduce the chances of a recurrence of bowel can by a few percent (5% I think.

Due to covid 19 she has now asked me to consider stopping the chemo as the virus poses a more serious risk.  Is anyone else in this situation?

Does anyone know

how long it takes your body to be free of cancer

how long it takes your immune system to recover after chemo

Is there a big difference in results between 4 and 8 cycles

My Oncologist is now on holiday and I am finding it difficult to get information

Many thanks for your help

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I can't answer your questions, having not had chemotherapy, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet.

Could I suggest that you also post this in the bowel cancer group as I'm sure someone in that group will be able to help with your questions. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

Best wishes with whatever you decide to do

    Hi bposotive

I have also had my chemo stopped due to Covid-19. I was having 30 weekly doses of Fluralolicil and had reached number 20 a couple of weeks ago. I had a telephone consultation with the oncologist and the decision was made to stop. The oncologist has said due to the amount I had already had they didn't see the point of putting me more at risk. I am due to have a CT scan at some point to clarify if any further chemotherapy is needed in the future. I hope this helps.

    Stay safe everyone

  • Hi Mark

many thanks for your response.  I have decided to stop the chemo.  My Oncologist advised me that it may take some months for the side effects such as tiredness to fade but that my immune system should be back to normal around 3 weeks after stopping the chemo, that is reassuring.

I have spoken to Victoria Health and they have recommended some vitamins that would help with immune system.  I have checked this out with my Oncologist and she advised that they wouldn't hurt but the most important thing now is fresh air, exercise and healthy diet.

VH also recommended Curcumin Elite, which I didn't know about, again Oncologist said she wasn't sure of benefits but it wouldn't do any harm

    Stay safe
