I had my last of four treatments of Etoposide and Carboplatin four weeks ago and I’m still feeling quite a lot of fatigue and was wondering how long I’m likely to get these waves of tiredness overwhelming me? Also any ideas how long it will take for my hair to grow back? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks Anna xxx
Hi ,
I think the body takes a while to get over being poisoned essentially, and the mental toll of diagnosis and treatment can't be underestimated too. So four weeks is not long in the scheme of things. I dont have experience of those drugs, but I think fatigue is a side effect of most treatments, and it takes a while to fade. In terms of hair, usually regrowth starts quite quickly, little fuzz at first and then before you know it, is actual proper hair. It is what it looks like which can be a suprise - some people with straight hair suddenly find curls. All very strange. Hope yours makes a re-appearance soon.
Thanks so much, I’m at the fuzzy stage now! My pre chemo hair was red and curly but As a child, I longed for straight hair so fingers crossed!
anna.
Hope it comes back how you want it! The re-growth gives you chance to try really short hair if you had long hair etc, and it can be very uplifting. There are supposed to be some shampoos which encourage hair re-growth but I cant remember the names - maybe ask a hairdresser.
