Hi

I am due for my second chemotherapy treatment on Tuesday and my hair is starting to fall out quite a bit. I also have a very sensitive scalp some areas quite sore, is this normal?

Many thanks

Zoe x

  • Hi Zoe

I haven't had chemotherapy so don't know if what you describe is normal or not.

I can see that you're a member of the breast cancer for the under-50s group but can I recommend that you join the main breast cancer group as well as they have a monthly chemotherapy thread where you could post this question.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens.

I'm also tagging and into my reply as they look after the breast cancer groups and will be able to give you a direct link to the chemotherapy thread.

Wishing you all the best for tomorrow.

    Hello

I so feel for you, it is exactly a year since my hair started to fall out, it was such a hard time for me but i found once it had gone i felt a sense of relief. This may not happen to you as we are all different but the day after my second chemo it went, did i shave it off??? No i held onto it for another week, i was a cow to everyone i came into contact with. So i would say don't hold onto it, have you got anything to wear?? I always said i wouldn't have a wig as i worried i would look like i had cancer. But after seeing a few ladies on here with theirs i went out and bought one. so have a look and see what you think, Our Wonderful Wigs

Also go take a look at the August Breast Cancer chemotherapy chat there will be people going through the same as you and i found it helped having people around me who totally understood.

My scalp never hurt but i do know others have said theirs did so if you post in the Breast Cancer Chemo group someone will probably come along and tell you if they know of anything that helps.

Hope the next few days aren't too difficult for you, come and shout if you need to xx

Hi Gino.  This is a horrible time for you. My head hurt and was sore after my first round of chemo. And hair started to come out. So I went to my hairdresser and she shaved it all of for me. I had bought a couple of hats which was nice. But at home I took them off. And wore them out but as I got used to it. I forgot to put hats on when I went out. So only used them if I was at a party or when I went to visit work. But as my hair grew back it came back a different colour and it was wave where my normal hair was straight. Good luck with chemo.  Lorayne x
