Hi all, I have a retroperitoneal sarcoma which I thought was going to be removed. Unfortunately due to its position it's not possible and I start chemo (dox) on Mon.

I've not had much time to mentally prepare and wanted any advice on what I should be eating/not eating, what food is best during the nausea, I'm diabetic so should eat.

I'm worried about hair loss and how it falls out and what I could do now

I'm also a single mother of 2 lively boys 11 & 13 one with ADHD and am trying to work out which are the days I will most need help.

I'm having chemo once every 3 weeks for 9 weeks. Sarcoma doesn't respond well to chemo and they will try a stronger combination if this doesn't work so I feel I need to do whatever ever I can to stay positive

Any tips gratefully received, thank you xx

  • Hi , one thing Janice was offered was a cold-cap that can sometimes help to reduce hair loss, however it would have made the total treatment time quite long and for her doxy was a fairly quick form of chemotherapy. She did lose all her hair though and when it started to come out went to local hairdresser to have a head shave and then wore a sports cap or headscarf when out. For her WW group she went in a purple sparkly wig.

Lots of stuff on the main site about preparing for chemo hopefully the hospital with give you a contract number if you have any questions. One important thing to have a home is a digital thermometer as if you get an infection you may need stong antibiotics.

Are they doing a mid treatment scan? Very encouraging when you find out the chemo is having an effect.

    <<hugs>>
