I have been an informal carer for my husband for ages, he had been becoming gradually less active and more unwell for a few years before finally being admitted to hospital and diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer…spread to spinal cord and bones and lymph nodes. 18months since diagnosed I am struggling to cope with looking after him at home.we pay for carers to come in twice a day. He is having physiotherapy to help with his mobility…he is unable to walk as a result of the spinal cord metastasis.
He has a catheter which needs regular attention. He uses a power chair but can’t access kitchen worktops or the bathroom. He does very little and Is more than frustrated with the situation. He is determined to walk again so will not agree to ant adaptations to our flat.
life as a carer, instead of being a wife, is rubbish, I feel more like a servant trapped in a world of servitude. I love my husband and will never go against his wishes to be at home but I am tired, sad and longing for someone to make me a cup,of tea. Just needing to vent my feelings and share my despair.
Have you got any grown up children who could come round give you a break even if it's just makeing you that cup of tea.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
