My husband has terminal bile duct cancer. Over the last 7 months I’ve watched him lose over 4 stones and he is now skin and bone. He’s finding the bed so uncomfortable he can’t sleep. He’s up and down to the loo all night as well and is just constantly exhausted. I suggested buying a medical bed, but he thinks it’s a waste of money as he (and I if I’m honest) doesn’t think he has long left. I’ve heard people have managed to get beds loaned to them? Is this via the gp or MacMillan or elsewhere? I’ve messaged the doctor to try and get a referral to see a MacMillan nurse, but have to wait until the end of the month for an appointment to discuss it! The lack of any help or advice from our gp is really getting to me. My husband’s treatment is at a private hospital and I feel like we’ve been written off by the nhs now.
Hiya. Didnt want to read and run. So sorry you are going through this.
You shoukd be able to get a bed and maybe air mattress from medequip, are you in UK?
The doctor or district nurses should arrange this. If not, is there a hospice you can connect in with, ours were great when my husband was terminally ill, and got things in place like the bed very quickly.
Some you can refer yourself, worth a check.
Hope you get what you need
Thanks. There is a hospice not too far away. Maybe I’ll pop in x
