Feeling totally overwhelmed at the moment, things have been changing so quickly I feel like I can’t keep up or had a chance to process what’s actually going on. Some days I’m just so overcome with fear and anxiety for the future.
my husband has incurable HCC liver cancer which we found out about in November, since then he has tried immunotherapy which didn’t work and the cancer spread quite quickly. We were told there isn’t much in the way of other options - just a drug that can slow it down for a few months. but he is currently on a trial and we are just hoping and praying it works.
Our son is only 4 and it just breaks my heart every day and I don’t even know where to start in trying to explain to him what’s going on and what the future may look like.
it’s just the hardest thing watching the person you love in so much constant pain and he is also struggling mentally.
I'd love to be able to connect with people going through similar.
Hi RhiDio
Welcome to our community, I hope your find it both informative and supportive.
Perhaps the nearest I can get to your experience was when our son was a similar age and while at that time the doctors suspected cancer it was not what was the immediate problem at the time as my wife ended up in intensive care with sepsis. We were lucky that she survived and then evertually they managed to diagnose Leiomyosarcoma - after some more adventures we were again lucky in that they managed to get her cancer stable.
We do have a guide on here Talking to children and teenagers that might be helpful.
As our son went through school we were grateful to always have the support of his teachers and the whole school.
<<hugs>>

Hi there. My partner has incurable metastatic bowel cancer in the lungs. She was diagnosed around 20 months ago. Diagnosis and treatment were, and remain, awful but we both live with it. I know one of the hardest things to think about is how it will go when we have to tell her three grandchildren (6, 3 and 2). It is heartbreaking. I have done a little bit of reading into it and there are some good resources out there for young children.
It is an awful situation and it is easy to feel lost but over the 20 months we have still had good times and made some lovely memories.
I hope you both find some peace and strength.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
