Worried about my dad.

Hi all. My mum was diagnosed with metastatic bladder cancer  and is receiving treatment. She was poorly before she started treatment and have seen little improvement which means she can’t do a lot of what she used to do which means my dad is trying to pick up the slack and do things he’s never had to do before. He says he’s trying his best but it’s never good enough. I understand my mum is probably finding it difficult too. I’m worried about my dad, he seems to be really struggling and is totally fed up. When I bring it up he says it’s everything. I’m unsure what to do. My dad is 78 and still works full time. I know if I said about talking to someone he would say no. Anyone who has been in the same situation or can give some advice I would appreciate it as I don’t know how to help xx

  • Hi

Has your mum has a needs assessment and your dad a carers assessment - see here for some information.

It can be helpful to get an independent view of what support can help your parents to live the best life they can and the wonders of this assessment is that it can highlight what they may be entitled too and also how that could be accessed locally - and of couse that information may well be helpful to you too.
