My wife who is at some stage of end of life. After sleeping / slumbering for over 36 hours and during that time refusing offers help to  get up, change PJ’s etc, my daughter arrived with the little one. Wife sat up and said right, better get showered then. Took tremendous effort to do it but was showered, dressed and downstairs. Enjoyed the whole family round. When putting her to bed I said please warn me when you’re intending to just sleep for 36 hours and not actually be dying. She said she felt another one coming on.
is this pattern normal?

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

Perhaps the nearest I can come in my experience was with my wife some years ago when it turned out she had pyometra and she would sleep quite a lot, barely eat anything and was adicted to ice. Turned out she had a major infection and eventually went in to toxic shock and a week in a coma in intensive care. Still after a month in hospital she started to get better - long story.

The pattern of rallying when visitors arrive seems to be quite common but often seems to sap any energy so can need some management - sometimes too so that we can get some rest too!

When someone works out what is normal perhaps they can let us know.

    <<hugs>>
