A Really bad day

My partner has finished his 15 day radiotherapy and chemo treatment. He is doing really well and being very positive. I’ve been off work since the diagnosis but went back last week. It was difficult, but with hindsight perhaps I was expecting too much of myself. Things settled down and it actually did me good to be back at work - I only work part time. Today  has been awful simply because an email was sent by somebody who was really really kind.  It was a car insurance claim and I had previously given a brief outline of what had occurred to cause the accident, a seizure and then the tumour diagnosis. This woman’s email was wonderful. She was so sympathetic, asking how I was coping and if I had any support..  I’ve been in floods of tears all day when my partner‘s not been around. I just don’t understand  why this had set me off again. I’ve been okay, not thinking of the future too much but I just can’t understand why the kindness of a stranger has had such an effect on me.. I feel like I’ve gone back to square one. Sorry, I know it’s a ‘poor me’ post but I’ve not got anybody else to talk to about it.

  • Hi Maureen,

It’s not a poor me post at all, I’ve been caring for my sibling for the last 6 months and seem to be sort of coping until someone asks the, and how are you? question and then my world breaks. I have no idea why kindness is so upsetting?

I’m no expert on dealing with any of this, but I hope knowing you aren’t alone with how you are feeling helps in a small way xx
