Struggling Mentally This Week

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some support as it's been a really difficult week. I am 29 and my partner is 28.

My partner is being treated for metastatic Ewing sarcoma (in his foot and lungs) and has just finished his fourth cycle of chemotherapy. Overall, there have been some positive signs during treatment, particularly with the pain in his foot improving, he's gone from walking in a medical boot, in pain to walking in normal shoes again and no pain. He's being treated in the Christie and they've been nothing short of amazing.

We just seem to keep having set backs. This week he had a second collapsed lung (pneumothorax). It was small enough that he was allowed home from A&E, but we're seeing the pleural team on Friday as they previously said surgery would likely be needed if it happened again. We're both really frightened about what this might mean, especially whether it could affect his chemotherapy or overall outcome.

I'm his full-time carer and moved over from Ireland to England to be with him during treatment. I had moved home to Ireland last year as I was doing a Doctorate, that's now all up in the air and my employer is being very difficult. We're currently living with his dad and step mom, which has been much harder than we'd hoped. I think everything that's happened this week has just left me feeling completely exhausted and overwhelmed. I have no one here.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's struggled emotionally as a partner or carer, as I'm finding it all very isolating.

Thank you for reading.
