Today is the day I have really felt that my husband is going to die. We found out he had cancer last year and have both been coping really well. His cancer had already spread when he got diagnosed to liver and lymph nodes. He has had two 3 months of chemotherapy but that finished last week. The cancer has shrunk a little but he still has it. This is the first time I have allowed myself to be honest and realise he could possibly die. He coped quite well with the chemo and is young and thought they would just carry on till it killed it all but now I don’t know what will happen next and how long he has got. He never talks about possibly dying so I don’t want to bring it up. Today has been hard because all of the feelings came at once
Hi. It is so daunting and the unknown is so hard to navigate.
The oncology team should be scheduling a review if chemo is finished, have they said anything? Do you have a cancer nurse specialist you can ask?Much will depend on what type of cancer he has and how aggressive, have they told you a stage or grade. My husbands cancer was rare and aggressive so was already grade 4 upon diagnosis, and he died within 2 years. But many people live many years even with tumours that have spread.
my husband never talked about dying, even when he was given a year, he always believed he would be an outlayer. He perhaps is still processing what he has been through.
Keep talking, but do get in touch with your specialist if you dont get a review date soon
Big hugs x
