I am really struggling to cope with each day. Most days are filled with appointments and on what I hope will be ‘days off’ from the focus on medical treatment and cancer my husband develops yet another issue. Today he woke up with sore spots on his leg which are weeping. Phone calls, photos sent to the community nursing team resulted in a call back to tell me to monitor the situation and call back if the spots/rash gets worse. I am at my wits end with being told to monitor the situation…. I am not medically trained so have no clue about what I am being expected to monitor and mange. I understand the nhs is overwhelmed but so am I. I have to scream and shout…metaphorically , to get any help and support. I am mentally and physically exhausted and expected to keep going. My body hurts, feel sick and dizzy and can hardly function. Just needing to say all this before the next task starts. Becoming an unexpected carer is shocking and after the trauma of witnessing end of life care of patients when my husband was in hospital so knowing what lies in store for us is so very painful. I don’t know what to do with myself anymore.
Just read this and wanted to say do phone or email Macmillan - I'm not in your situation but I have in the past felt extreme despair and speaking to a Macmillan nurse a few weeks ago really helped and with other events in the past I have asked for support. Not in my nature to do so usually but having some sort of 'go to place' when you feel like this is very important. Just wanted to let you know I've heard what you're saying and here's a hug over the web.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
