  • My husband has had bowel cancer which was successfully removed and then he received chemotherapy. This was in July 24. He is still having problems as he has to keep having blood infusions as he isn't producing enough red blood cells and feels lethargic all the time. He has also developed diverticulitus which causes him to be on the toilet all the time and also makes him sick. He has now been in bed for 4 days, refusing food and just saying he has a headache. Ive tried to get him to eat and drink, but he  is just so down and depressed. I don't know what to do. I am at work but come home at lunch to him being in bed again. I know I sound awful but it is getting me down too. Its as if he doesn't want to help himself as everything I suggest, ie the GP, food, drink, painkillers, its not what he wants. We are struggling financially too so that doesn't help.
  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

Sorry to hear about what you are both going though, it is so hard when our loved ones do not appear to want to do things we are sure will help. Sometimes we have to take a step back and let them come forward with the suggestions.

I wonder if it might help you to talk to one of the advisers on the helpline they might be able to advise if there is any financial support you might be entitled to.

    <<hugs>>

  • Sorry to hear your pain. It's really hard to keep going some days and I sympathize with how tricky it is to juggle work with supporting a loved one at the same time.

I am sending you a big hug Hugging and hope for a better day soon.

  • Thankyou for your comments. I suppose he is entitled to be down and depressed but I suppose I will just have to hope he feels better soon, which I am sure he will.

I feel better just by voicing my concerns and having a moan. Thanks again.

  • Thankyou so much for your reply. Its nice to know there are people out there that understand what you are going through.
