Hi Everyone,

I am sole carer for my father who has end stage Liver Cancer (HCC). It has been one hell of a journey up until now which I imagine it has for all of you, and I send big hugs to you all Heart️

Dad was given 3/6 months May 2020 but is still going - fairly strongly up until now. There has been issues with bilateral cellulitis, fluid build up everywhere, chest infections and the like but we battle through the elements together. The latest instalment of the saga is that dad had 2 falls last week, the first being when he bruised his ribs and couldn’t take deep breath’s so has now got a chest infection, but more worrying is that his legs seem to have all but stopped working. I have our palliative nurse coming tomorrow to assess him, but she rang the gp and they didn’t think it was worth them coming out ( it wasn’t dad’s normal gp).

Has anyone else experienced this loss of mobility so quickly? He has staggered around for the last few months so I guess it had to change sometime.

Thanks

  • Hello Helen 1976,This sure is a hell of a journey. My husband and I have just had a dreadful weekend, his legs won’t hold him anymore and he can’t get to the bathroom.Tried all weekend to pass urine getting more and more frustrated and cross.Today had our district nurse and GP out who had to put in a catheter, which he hated.I really can’t manage now he can’t walk.I just hope I can get some sleep tonight. We are very lucky that we have fantastic GPs,a small practice so we always deal with one of two doctors who know us very well.It is quite amusing that whenever I ring them as soon as I mention my husband ‘s name I get put straight through. I know we are lucky. But yes my husband was still walking last week.He has also had several falls,it’s a nightmare.Big hugs to you.
