Hi, my Mum is a breast cancer survivor from 15 years ago. About 3 years ago her cancer returned. This time in her spine. I was told it was under control and she would have to be on medication for the rest of her life. About 3 months ago my mum and dad told me the medication wasn’t working. During this time my girlfriend was nearly due to give birth. And finally our baby girl was born. My parents were the first to visit us. During the visit my mum explained that the cancer in her spine had spread to her brain. She had some mild swelling on the right side of her face and body at the time. We were devastated. She had chemotherapy the next week. We were staying as positive as possible and making sure we all spend as much time together as possible. I know my mum holding her granddaughter makes her so happy. But her condition gets worse every time we see her. My mum is now bed bound. My dad, brother and I are caring for her. I was never told directly that this was terminal. To see her suffer the way she is, is unbearable. The last two weeks have been a living nightmare. Balancing being a son to my sick mum and dad to my new daughter is so hard. Your mind is in a thousand places from moment to moment. Taking one day at a time.
Hi
You are so right to be taking things one day at a time, I was in a similar situation when my son was born though in my case my mum did rally and my son was about 7 when she finally died.
Seeing someone we love suffer is never easy and chemotherapy can be especially difficult but the oncologist would not offer it unless they though it would help.
<<hugs>>
Steve
