My husband has MDS, diagnosed this summer. He is not a stem cell transplant candidate so was offered azacitidine. He has managed one cycle but the nadir has gone on and on, delaying the second cycle. He has had repeated infections and barrels of antibiotics and antifungal treatment. Apparently this is unusual. Anyone else had this?
Hi
Sorry to hear this story and noted that nobody has replied, perhaps often a problem with something unusual. It might help to post in this group that is specific to Myelodysplasia (MDS) & myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and there may be people with more insight.
We can support you in this group sharing our feelings as it can be really hard watching someone we love go through all this and it is easy to sometimes forget our own needs - I know I have been there in the past.
<<hugs>>
Steve
Very many thanks for coming back on this, Steve. The community here is so helpful and kind. The situation is clearer as it means he is not responding to treatment and has had a biopsy to see what is happening. I think the disease has transformed to AML. His symptoms are text book and all the good advice sites ( mostly US based) set it all out really clearly. I am preparing for the worst now. Very many thanks again, C
