Does anyone know if Macmillan at the hospital can help with borrowing or hiring wheelchairs?

I had some tickets booked for an outdoor history re-enactment for my mum, myself and my husband asked a thank you to her for looking after me when I had my hysterectomy, now she is unable to walk very far but I would very much still like to take her.

  • Hi , British Red Cross provides wheelchairs on loan and I think St John's Ambulance does too.  One can be borrowed from the NHS, details here, but a referral is needed from the doctor or one of the specialist team. Hope this helps.

I'm sure others will let you know where they borrowed one from.

  • Hi

We're contacted Macmillian for a wheelchair which we then collected from our local hospital. Never thought it'd say it about a wheelchair but it has been a godsend being able to take my mother for days out in it. They were very helpful and made sure we had one that was the right size and provided us with a padded cushion.

Hope this helps. Hope your mother enjoys her day out with you.

    Hi searchingforrainbows

if you have a Macmillan Nurse attached give them a call as they provided a lot of equipment for my husband, alternatively British Red Cross have wheelchairs and you give a donation, also what my son did was search Facebook marketplace, you can usually find one cheap, this is why Macmillan’s Occupational therapy did not have to provide one. Hope this helps

  • When Janice needed a transit type wheelchair we ended up buying from "betterlife", got VAT relief so was about £65.
