At last, a solution to the agony of late effects of radiotherapy last year.

I had lumpectomy July 2025, radiotherapy September 2025 and sailed through it all, a bit of fatigue, but nothing I couldn’t cope with. Until February 2026, swollen, lumpy, hot boob. Initially not sore but uncomfortable, then it became sore. Mostly due to the swelling but was really getting me down.

I did go to hospital, had examination and ultra sound and all good except for severe scar tissue caused by radiotherapy. Rub boob with ibuprofen gel 2/3 times a day, swelling reduced drastically after about 2 weeks. Use lots of moisturiser, kind of kneading your breast like you would bread. What a relief!! Swelling down, hotness down, lumps appear to have moved about and boob looks and feels much better.
I would always say to get boob checked first but hopefully this will help anyone who has the same problems.

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed your very helpful post.

I just wanted to pop on and thank you for taking the time to share your experience and thought you might also like to post this in the breast cancer group as I'm sure the people over there would find it helpful.

When you have a moment it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
