Hello

so I’ve had surgery to remove my kidney and the tumour attached it was large at 9/10 cm the took surrounding tissue and my result have come back as clear margins but with a pt3a they said I can have treatment if I wish but if I do and later down the line they find cancer that I won’t be able to have all of the treatment because I’ve had some before so I’m totally confused what to do I scared there might be cancer in the tissue they didn’t take so I just don’t know what to do any advice ??

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had chemotherapy it was for a different type of cancer.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the kidney cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello. My info in bio. I also have pT3a and meeting with the oncologist on Tuesday. I have decided to go for whatever treatment they want to give. I thought if there is any hidden cells I would rather get the treatment now then wait. My urologist was the one who said it would be better for my future to have immunotherapy as I am high risk and 40 per cent chance of the cancer returning. But often see some others with pt3a have not been offered any further treatment. So this now has me wondering the lesion on my right lung they said not to worry about is the start of lung cancer. I am sure all will be come clear Tuesday.

  • Hi hope your well

I have looked into having immunotherapy and Ive decided to have it the information I was given wasn’t explained to me so yeh I’m at hospital seeing oncology next week so hopefully will be starting it soon

    wish you all the best

  • I used Google scholar to weigh up 3 research papers to review and all 3 gave  more or less the same percentages. Can I ask why did they suggested furthur treatment for you? I am curious to why some offered and others not even with similar staging and grade. I understand if you do not wish to say too. Will let you know how I get on next week. Hope your appt goes well too x

  • Hi

i think because the size of my tumour it was 10 cm to be honest the cancer nurse I saw after my operation wasn’t the best I personally thought the information I was given was not explained to me he basically said if I had immunotherapy and the cancer came back then i would not be able to have that again so I’m like shit I wait but after I looked into it says they recommend to have it my surgeon said that I would be offered it before I had my op and my biopsy report offered me it the reason I refused firstly was it wasn’t explained to me correctly

so yeh have to see how it goes

    take care

  • Oh okay. That's make mkre sense now. I was informed in my clinic appt before the surgery I would be offered more therapy if the results came back medium to high risk. Obviously, I can't do things by half and grew a 12 cm and had the aggressive type of rcc. I was just wondering if they had noticed anything else on your ct scans and that was the reason they may have offered the treatment.

Thank you for getting back to me.
