Does anyone have experience of Anaplastic thyroid cancer? Targeted therapy may not be an option if BRAF gene is not present, it seems there are no other treatment options, should I be looking for more options? I feel as if I am not doing enough to help my Dad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated,  thank you

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I don't have any experience with the type of cancer that your dad has, I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you also post this in the thyroid cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have had treatment for this type of cancer.

Wishing you and your dad all the best

  • Thank you, I have done that too.

  • Florence, I am so sorry about your Dad’s diagnosis. My Mum had anaplastic thyroid cancer. My Mum also had immunotherapy and this bought us precious time with her. If you have any questions, please do ask as I will share any info I can. It is such a rare cancer and I remember feeling like there were no options or information available. Thinking of you and your Dad.

  • Hi Jo

Thank you for your message. I'm so sorry your Mum had to go through this. Dad is receiving Targeted Therapy which is also giving us more time.

You are right about the.options available for this type of Thyroid cancer.Being told that there is little or no treatment options was very hard to hear.

We have to travel to the Royal Free for Dad's Targeted Therapy and he is exhausted for a couple of days after. I do wonder how long he can do that for.

We are lucky to have the support of our local Hospice and this is so reassuring.
