Hello everyone, my mother is nearly 73 and was diagnosed with cancer of the Oesophagus on July 1st, she had been suffering with eating problems since January, but due to the Covid-19 situation, was not diagnosed until July! The only treatment the hospital could offer was a stent to help her eat more comfortably. We feel this has failed though, as mum is unable to even managed much fluids at the moment. She is managing between 1-2 Fortisip drinks a day and manages around 500ml of water, and sometimes some raspberry sorbet. I know she isnt geting enough nutrition and is losing between 4-6 lbs a week. I know that we haven't got long with her, but does anyone have any experience of this type of cancer that maybe able to give any advice or at least some sort of time scale? Many thanks. Love to all xxx
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your mum has oesophageal cancer and that you're worried that the stent she has had fitted isn't working properly. I assume that she has spoken to her cancer nurse specialist (CNS) about this to see if anything can be done.
Could I recommend that you join and also post your question in the Oesophageal cancer forum group where you'll be able to speak directly to others with tis type of cancer.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'click to join' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting '+New' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your mum's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
