Fatigue

Hi everyone.

I'm really struggling with fatigue at the moment. I had a lumpectomy in January and am due to start my radiotherapy on Wednesday. I also starting taking Letrozole about a month ago now.

I know that fatigue is a side effect of the treatment and cancer itself  but I just feel so different in my body, the aches and pains from the Letrozole and zero energy. Also I look in the mirror and see someone different, I seem to have aged about 10 years in the past few months.

Can anyone relate to this?

  • Hi ,

It is still very early days for you, and the shock of diagnosis, into treatment and new drugs all have an effect on the body. Fatigue is one of the most common reactions and it is not suprising, both physically and mentally you are going through the mill.  I think taking cues from your body is paramount, rest when you need to and dont expect too much of yourself for now. I am pretty sure that over time you will find yourself less tired, especially once the radiotherapy is over. The body also takes time to get used to the tablets and one month is not long.

It is good that your profile shows that your cancer was caught early and the prognosis is a good one - but the treatment still takes its toll on your physical and mental health. Am sure you don't look ten years older, but it is easy to feel it as you say with aches and pains which come with treatment. I think you will find that you will be able to look back on this period in a few months and not recognise you felt like this.

Good luck with the radiotherapy and beyond.

  • Hi ownedbystaffies,

Thank you for your reply and the good advice.

I realise I am one of the lucky ones with regard to my prognosis but also need to be aware of the toll it has all taken on me and be patient.

Thank you again and take care of yourself.
