Partial lung removal

Hi everyone. My Dad has been diagnosed with suspected lung cancer. They are removing part of his lung in a few weeks and some nodes to check. Has anyone here experienced this surgery or had a loved one go through it. We've been told the basics on what to expect but I have no idea what the likely outcome will be. Is there a chance dad will be cancer free after?

Thank you.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to your dad I can understand you wanting to find out as much as possible about his upcoming surgery.

As you know, the online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you also join and post your question in the lung cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have had the same type of surgery as your dad is going to have.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Thank you, I'll update my profile now.

  • I'm sorry to hear of your fathers diagnosis. I was diagnosed with early stage one in my right upper part of my lung. I was in Guys last Thursday for robotic surgery. The surgeon removed 30% of the lung. It all went according to plan and was discharged on the Saturday. So now I'm recovering well at home with a telephone consultation every other day from Guys Hospital. My particular prognosis is looking good. May I wish you and especially your father all the very best in the future coming days
