Hi, I’m 6 weeks post op. Primary sigmoid colon, mets ovary, liver, peritoneum. I’m struggling to go to the toilet, I’m using senokot and lactulose. Sometimes I go once a day, but then I constantly feel I want to go the toilet and it nothing except extreme pain as though something is blocking poop coming out. Other days I can go every 30mins for 7 hours.
I’m so pleased that I’m alive, but I’m not living constantly worrying how my bowels are going to be on any given day. Is there anyone out there who has had a similar op and issues who can share their experiences?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read how you're struggling at the moment.

As the online community is divided up into different support groups I'm going to recommend that you join the bowel cancer group as that will give you the chance to connect directly with others who have had this type of cancer and who have maybe experienced the same problems as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi, I've just  read your post and and I know it was a couple of months ago but thought ide still reply. I hope your situation has got better since your post.

I'm 5 weeks post Hipec, removing two tumours and having two re sections. Everything went we the said.

I too ha e proble.s with my bowels, some days having a bowel movement as soon as I get up and some times 10 times in a day. Sometimes I have diarrhea, and other times I struggle to poop. I have severe pain when I need to go for a poo and sometimes pain when I need to pee. With both the pain goes as soon as I've pooped or peed. I only have half a bowel left from previous surgery which affects things too.

I was told it could take months for my bowels to get back to normal so I presume all this is normal.

Have things improved any for you?

    Take care and stay safe.

  • Hi, I’m now 4 months post op and things are working a lot better. I think I have to accept there’s a new normal now. I’m also less anxious which had helped a lot. Thank you for asking and good luck with your recovery
