Hi everyone,
My dad has been recently diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. He has a 2cm-lump in his throat, on top of the voice box. Doctor said he has to go under a surgery to get the tumor removed.
I have a few questions I hope you can help me with.
1. I'm thinking of buying some nutrition drinks for him to prepare for the surgery. A lot of people said after the surgery, the patient won't be able to eat very well and will lose lots of weight. So it's a good idea to prepare the body with lots of nutrients before the surgery. What do you use to help you with the weight loss and to support the body with enough nutrients?
I have found a milk powder called "Prosure for people with cancer". Have you heard of it before and is it any good? My dad has diabetes as well so can he use this product?
2. The doctor said after the surgery, he might not be able to speak anymore. What are your experiences after a similar surgery? What should we expect apart from what the doctor said?
3. Anything else my dad could do or I can do to prepare for the surgery?
Thank you for reading. I really appreciate any inputs/experience/virtual hugs.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with cancer and it's natural that you'd want to do all you can to help.
I can't help with any of your questions, not having had this type of cancer or surgery, but I noticed that you hadn't had any replies yet. However, there have been replied to your post in the head and neck cancer group which I hope you found useful.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes, I have received a few replied on the other thread from the Head and Neck cancer group. They have been really helpful.
And also thank you for the tips! Take care!
You're welcome and I'm glad you found the responses to your other post helpful :)
