Still waiting for CT Scan results

It's frustrating but I've been waiting for 5 weeks and counting for my CT scan results. I'm on palliative chemo, and the first drug (Irinotecan) stopped working after 10 months, last October/November. I was switched to oxaliplatin at the end of December, so this scan was the first one following that (after 2 months on the drug). I'm supposed to have my oncology review on Thursday. My last review (3 weeks ago) was supposed to review the scan, but neither me nor the oncologist was notified it wasn't ready. I don't want to waste my time (45 minute journey, one way), nor the oncologist for another awkward consultation. I have chased this, but no response.

I know there is a reason for the delay. A sister hospital in our Trust lost both it's CT scanners so my hospital were picking up their patients, but it's the communication issue that's so annoying.

  • Hello Joules (

So sorry to read of your problems. My initial reaction if you haven't had any joy from the Consultant or their secretary is do you have a named CNS (Cancer Nurse Specialist) you can contact?

The next step would be to contact PALS (Patient Advisory and Liaison Service) at the hospital and see what they can do for you.

I hope this gets you some results.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you. I finally heard from the oncology nurse team this afternoon. My results are in, so my oncology appointment will proceed, along with my second iron infusion. This is a relief. Just got to hope the news is positive.

  • Unfortunately the results were not has hoped. I will start my third (and final) palliative chemo in April. My next treatment will be Lonsurf and Avastin. I hope they will not be as draining as oxilaplatin, as my sewing room is upstairs and I have several things to finish.

  • Hello

I am so sorry to read of your CT results. It my well be an idea to join our Chemotherapy Group - link here:

    Chemotherapy forum

You could ask on that group if anyone has experience of Lonsurf and Avastin.

I wish you well with this treatment.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi

I’m sorry to read your results were not as you hoped-that’s such a blow for you. If you want to post in the bowel group, there have been posts there from others going through the Lonsurf and Avastin regime.

I hope you’ll find some useful information there.

  • Thanks, I will do that.

Thank goodness for cooking programs for the nighttime insomnia. I can't eat what they cook, but I haven't the skills to cook like the chefs anyway, so I'm not missing out!

Takes my mind off my discomfort.

    Awake and up all night

It’s usually busy with lots of chat, and you’d get a warm welcome from the lovely folk there. Lots of chatting about all sorts of things and it could be a good distraction in the night for you,

I’ve watched every season of certain cookery programmes myself, though I can’t manage any cooking these days. I’m usually awake very early, never any chance of a long lie!
