I am new to this cancer journey and I have lymphoma. I know weight loss is considered a major symptom of cancer but I have actually gained weight…I went from being tiny petite to being chubby. My tumor is in my abdomen so a lot of it is swelling and inflammation but I’m curious to see how many others have actually gained weight due to their cancer prior to treatment.
Hi RedLeaf, I see it’s your first post so a warm welcome to the Macmillan Community and Happy New Year……. although I am sorry that you had to find us and especially sorry to hear about your Lymphoma diagnosis.
I am Mike and I help out around our Lymphoma groups.
I know this journey rather well as I was diagnosed way back in 1999 at 43 with my first rare type of incurable but treatable slow growing Low-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma…... eventually reaching Stage 4a in late 2013 when my second, also a rare type of aggressive, fast growing High-grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma was then presenting so although my Lymphoma ‘type’ my be different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well……. But as an encouragement I am over 10 years out from my last treatment, in remission from both my NHLs, I turned 70 back in November and I am living a great life.
Weight loss and indeed weight gain are just some of the issues…… could be seen as Symptoms of Lymphoma…… and at times there is no rhyme or reason for the symptoms.
You don’t say the exact type of lymphoma you have……… There are actually over 60 types and sub-types of Lymphoma so we can’t have a group for every type but these are our main Lymphoma groups below.…..
General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma
These groups are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.
Have a look at the group list above…… then click on the link that best fits your type of Lymphoma and if there is no specific group for your Lymphoma type do join the General Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma group…….
When the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.
When you are ready……. you can introduce yourself by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
I will keep an eye open for you but if you are not sure what type you have pleased do get back to me on this post and I will help you out further.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
