So my husband is has just passed the 6 yr past the Ivor Lewis op. He was kicked out of hospital on the start of our covid lock down from Brighton. He has done fabulous but unfortunately now 6 yrs later he has developed malnutrition. He is 50yrs of age now. I Hv still continued to do so much research into this and my concern is….. it is in the top 5 of terminal cancers but my research has shown it’s deteriorated from the after care. After Ivor Lewis they are going to be deficient in certain vitamins. My Husband still continues to lose weight after putting him on a high protein, high fat, high fibre but low sugar diet. He still has not had a face to face consultation with a nutritionist. I believe the fatality of this cancer is due to the aftercare they are not provided with. I’m am doing some deep research into this and would like others input. I Hv currently arranged an appoint with my husbands Gp where I will bringing up a lot of questions.
your help…
do you understand and Aware of the side effects of B12 deficiency?
are you on iron tablets?
do you continue to lose fat mass?
Hv you been offered free gym membership to help build body fat and strengthen muscle?
I am very much interested in providing support after Ivor Lewis and would appreciate your support in my support in supporting your recovery after.
If you are reading this I’m guessing you Hv smashed this!! But are you happy with your after care?
please contact me if you are not sure your getting the support you need.
Hi Debbi, and a very warm welcome to the forum, though I'm so sorry you have to be here, and to hear of the poor after care you are both experiencing, though I can emphasise with the poor aftercare, and would suggest you contact PALS, write a letter of complaint, contact your NHS trust directors, or your MP, as options, I know little of your cancer my friend, but there is the Oesophageal cancer forum, where you will find others who have shared a similar journey, my very best wishes to you both, and I sincerely hope you get the answers your looking for
Eddie xx
