I have stomach cancer and had part on my stomach removed on 4th August. I finding that I cannot sleep fro for than 3-4 hours without waking up with a very painful back from staying in one position. I find that turning on my side is too painful, even when I try to support the stomach with pillows. I have fatty tissue on m back which isn't helping with. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences the same issues following surgery and how long do the problems last
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I've been fortunate in never having problems sleeping.
You might also like to post this message in the stomach cancer group, which I can see you've posted in before, as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you and may have experienced similar problems getting comfortable enough to sleep.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
If you're up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, you might be interested in joining others on the awake and up all night thread.
Hi, I don’t know f this will help but my friend had a large portion of bowel removed and now cannot sleep on her side any more (not pain). She eventually got used to sleeping on her back. Personally I have difficulty sleeping flat on my back (after hip replacements and recently a hysterectomy). I have an electronic bed where I can raise the head and foot of the bed and this helps enormously. Is it worth you trying some sort of wedge for your bed so you don’t sleep flat?
