Hi, this is my second scare and I'm no better at it this time, more so in fact. It's 3 years since I had surgery and my last check was in January. After going to the doctor to ask for a change in meds and concern about my breathing she asked me to do poo tests and traces of blood were found. I'm a total wreck, off my food, sick with worry. I am a worrier just like my mother was but it's so hard not to. The leaflet they send you has cancer pathway on the front. Great! that sure to set anyone like me on a downward spiral. I'm trying to read something light and enjoyable, play games on my tablet but all the while my stomach is lurching. Sleep is a problem also. I'm 84, any advice please.

  • Hi there Poppsie.

I was scrolling around and saw your post.  Aw,  you poor thing and I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through.  It's very hard to concentrate on much else when your mind keeps going back to the place you'd rather not be.

Here's my advice.  If you haven't already found a forum pertinent to yourself, why not join Awake and up all night?  It's easy to find but a Community Champion will guide you if you need any help.

It's a great place to visit if sleep is avoiding you, and it's chock full of the most caring and chatty folk to give you a lift.  If you like the sound of it, you'll be made more than welcome, so hope to see you if you decide pop in!

  • Hi

If you click on this link I’ve made, it will take you directly to the thread Gill has mentioned

    Awake and up All Night

Lots of people who are having problems sleeping post there to chat with others. I can understand the panic of seeing that leaflet, but blood in your poo does not necessarily mean cancer-there can be lots of other reasons as the poo test only identifies that some blood has been found, but not where it came from or what’s causing it.

Cancer needs to be ruled out, and it could be piles or any other non cancerous bowel condition so further tests are normally needed to see what’s going on.
