Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Can't even get a reply for newly diagnosed let alone sleep

  • Evening Maria and welcome to the group Blush

Sorry you can't sleep hon, but totally understandable if you've just been diagnosed.

Who hasn't replied to you hon? Would you like to tell us a little about yourself so we can get a conversation going?

Just to let you know, I use a phone to post and there's always a slight delay, so if you reply don't think I've given up on you, it'll probably take a few minutes to get back.

  • I was encouraged to talk to someone about my cancer. But I find it hard to talk to anyone. My name is Maria I'm 63 married and have 3 grown boys and 14 grandkids. I had a bad accident 2 yrs ago and as a result had total knee and shin replacement after 3 surgeries.
I wasn't feeling too good with a massive pain in my lower back and started bleeding after 14 yrs of nothing. Thought is was the menopause but it was different, so I finally got it checked and now I have cancer.

  • Oh crikey Maria, that's an awful lot of things suddenly piled on top of you. Poor love.

Ok sweetheart, firstly are you getting support from hubby and the boys, as that's a good start? Also, have you got a team at the hospital and a treatment plan yet? Was your team the ones who told you to reach out to others who may be going through the same cancer diagnosis?

Sorry about the third degree but if you let us know your specific cancer there are dedicated forums where you'll be able to connect with other members going through the same. That's always good as you'll be able to share experiences and tips on how others have coped with their treatments.

But hey, stay here too as we're a very friendly and supportive group and talk about loads of other things besides cancer.

Wow! 14 grandkids?! I've only got 4 and I'm a few years older than you! You've obviously got a very productive family - good for you.

Hopefully others here will be along to join us soon Maria, as a few of us night owls have trouble sleeping too. Here's your welcome badge Owl wear it with pride xxx

  • I’m 44 and a single mum to my 9-year-old daughter. I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma in early 2026, which had spread to my adrenal glands, spleen and pelvis.

I’ve been receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and thankfully my latest scans showed a good partial response, with my tumours shrinking.

Unfortunately, in September I discovered I also have brain metastases, now numbering 10. On 14 October, I experienced multiple seizures and was hospitalised. Scans showed some bleeding within the brain tumours and growth in one lesion. I’m now taking Keppra and steroids, with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) scheduled for 20 October.

Since the seizures, I’ve noticed some difficulties with memory and finding the right words, which I’m hoping will improve.

I’m trying to remain positive, particularly as my cancer elsewhere has responded well to treatment, but the brain metastases and seizures have been incredibly frightening. My biggest concern is being here for my daughter for as long as possible.

I’d really appreciate connecting with others who have experienced brain metastases, SRS or seizures, particularly anyone who has had a good long-term response. Heart️

  • Yeh they told me to speak to someone. My husband treats me the same because that's what I want . My boys the same way. I'm a mother of boys so you got to be the Alfa. But I got to see a surgeon on the 28th and have a MRI to see if it's spread anywhere else . Plus chest X-ray . I have lost my job through the accident. I worked there for 22yrs . I was a baker/confectioner . I'm so depressed and annoyed that this has happened. Keep asking why me . I wanted to go back to work but not now . I can't sleep I can eat . I have lost weight. I'm a big girl but getting sick has floored me . The pain in my belly is overwhelming. So seeing a surgeon next week to get things sorted is a start . But I thought mri was first then surgery

  • Evening Lisa, and a warm welcome to the group Blush

It comes through clearly from your post that you're a very strong individual hon, and that will stand you in good stead to tackle whatever lies ahead. I applaud you!

Lisa, you need to join one of the forums specific to your cancer and you'll probably find members on those who will have had SRS or going to take the treatment. I was on the Head and Neck forum a couple of days ago and a member there was considering SRS.

Brian, our community champ, will be the best guy to provide links to other forums as I'm not savvy enough, but my guess is he's already asleep. Stay here too though, as you never know, someone here might have experienced similar to yourself.

Lisa hon, I know how concerned you'll be about your girl and the future, but you've already responded well to treatment so there's a good chance it'll carry on with new ones. I really hope so sweetheart.

Your lovely girl must be so proud of her Super mum, I know I would be.

Sending you both hugs and all the very best of everything xxx

  • They are very productive gill. But I'm feeling very overwhelmed by this . I only have a husband as support and he is not well. He is nearly blind has diabetes and a grumpy attitude lol but I can deal with that . I have done for 45 yrs haaaa

  • Hi Maria

It is very scary when you are first diagnosed and we probably all ask why me it’s horrible. I was 63 when I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and I felt like I was in a strange parallel universe. I was several years post menopause and had had bleeding for quite a while before I was finally diagnosed. It takes a while for the diagnosis to sink in …try to take one day at a time and be kind to yourself. The ball is rolling for you you’ve got an appointment to see a surgeon. There are groups here for all the cancer types as well as general groups and I found it really helpful speaking to others who had gone through what I was facing. You probably will have an mri before surgery I think that’s normal procedure I expect someone will be in touch to arrange that. Lucky you 14 grandkids I’ve only got 3 you must have expensive Christmases !

    Sending hugs

    Linda xxx
