Are you having trouble sleeping?

Sleep problems may be caused by how you’re feeling emotionally, or as part of the side effects for cancer treatment. If you find it hard to have a good sleep, you’re not alone. The Online Community is here to support you 24/7.

“Getting a cancer diagnosis is extremely stressful, and that brings a whole load of emotions, and lack of sleep certainly does not help. I think many of us have periods of insomnia. I experienced a long period of not sleeping. I could go off to sleep quite quickly, but after an hour I would find myself wide awake again, and would spend the rest of the night getting frustrated because I couldn't sleep."

  • Thank you for reply.

Yes it's difficult managing all the health problems.

I too have fibromyalgia, migraines. Osteoarthritis, osteoporosis,  Coeliac disease. For 40years now.

    Then add on the cancer.

I hope you are managing all your health issues.

  • Yes I have a silver line phone friend every Monday.

We've chatted for 11years now a lovely lady.

I also attended Ayrshire cancer support for complimentary therapy and had a Mcmillian support friend.

These are only for a certain amount of visits.

So I have looked into things to help me.

    Fern in a Lhasa Apso.

I re  homed her a few years after I lost my other dog.

I hope you can get to sleep soon.

  • Good grief, Doreen!  You've got a helluva lot on your plate to cope with there!  You must be a strong woman as some would be running for the hills faced with all that.  You have my heartfelt sympathy lass.

LolaBear has also jumped to your rescue and passed on some great advice.

Hey, I noticed you were a member of the animals forum.  I intend to join too, as although we don't have a family furry chum anymore (still heartbroken after over two years) my friend in H&N forum sent me pics of all the dogs he looks after and we often chat about them.  They are absolutely gorgeous!

Right love, hope you manage to fall asleep soon.

  • Sounds as if you've got things covered, so that's great! So many people responding to you, which is amazing. Such a caring forum. Thanks for your kind words...

  • I haven’t been a part of this chat group before, as my issue is more about waking very early every day. However, I do have spells where I find it very difficult to sleep and can be awake for hours in the night and not able to drop off to sleep easily.

Today I’ve ordered something which is claimed to help with getting to sleep and staying asleep, so I’ll report back on how it helps once it arrives!

  • Is there a Chinese restaurant near Mr Moo's called Mr Woo's?  Just a thought.

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Morning Steve.

I don't know as it's been a while since we were around Skipsea.  Now you've mentioned Chinese I could murder salt and pepper spare ribs and prawn toast - now!  I don't stick to conventional grub at certain times, and have wolfed down a full Sunday dinner for breakfast before now.  Yum!

Hey, you're not having me on about Mr Woo's are you?

(Picks up banjo, grinning broadly...Oh Mr Woo...)

  • Morning, Sarah,

I don't know if you read the posts between Deb and me further up thread, but we're blaming  magnesium for knocking us both out!  It probably isn't but I almost turned nocturnal yesterday - dropping off for spells during daylight but wide awake during the night.  Crazed!

Yep, let us know if what you've ordered works - a few of us wait with baited breath...

  • Hi all, yep the magnesium really doesn’t agree with me. It helps relax me but everything goes really blurry and stays blurry long after I’m up and about.

im going to give it a miss for a few days and see if things go back to normal. I’m not functioning particularly well on and tbh prefer to be sleep deprived … lol.

my daughter has sent me some melatonin, so I will give that a go in a few days. See if it helps without turning me into a zombie ‍♀️

    lol

  • Hi Gill

I’ve just gone a bit back to catch up-I’ve been seeing a lot about magnesium recently on social media but not tried it myself yet. Not sure I could cope with feeling groggy in the day-I have tendency to nod off at times in the day as generally I don’t get much sleep in the night but I always feel rubbish and a bit out of sorts if I nap in the daytime-it’s all a bit of a vicious circle!
