Hi everyone.

My dad will be starting chemo in a few days and I absolutely adore him. He is my hero and I am devastated he is going through this. I really want to help in some small way so I am going to make him a little care package to get him though chemo. I have some thought son what to add...eg. ginger biscuits, nice tea, lip balm etc but I am keen to hear your thoughts. Is there anything that a y of you amazing people have wanted or received when you were going through treatment?

Thank you for your help

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

That sounds like a lovely thing to do for your dad. When I was having chemo it was nice to have something to do while sitting having the treatment, so maybe you could get him a book to read or puzzle book depending on what he likes to do.

As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups so I'd recommend that you join the group relevant to your dad's cancer to see if there's anything specific that people found useful for that type of cancer,

You could either let me know what type of cancer he has, so that I can give you a direct link to that group, or you could look through this list to find the appropriate group.

Once you've joined you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on reply.

It would be great if you could pop something about your dad's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi there. He has lymphoma. I am a bit worried about putting too much information about the specifics of his his journey just yet but I really appreciate your help and advice. It is appreciated.

  • As there are quite a few lymphoma groups, I'll list them below so you can choose the right one for your dad.

    CLL, SLL and HCL

    Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma

    Follicular lymphoma

    Hodgkin lymphoma

    Mantle cell lymphoma

  • Thank you so much . This is helpful

  • I am sorry to hear that but your dad will definitely defeat this problem. Although it is hard to suggest particular items for the care package of a lymphoma patient but I think you should consider items like wellness products, food, encouraging content etc. First of all, if we discuss the food items, you can include healthy fats that could be in nuts, greek yoghurt, extra virgin olive and avocadoes. Similarly, with nutrition-rich fruits, you can also have herbal teas in your package.

On the other hand, he will need a humidifier during the therapy. It is great if there is already a humidifier in his room otherwise, you can consider including a durable humidifier in his package. If we talk about comfortable clothes then you should also include cosy T-shirts, pyjamas, sleeping pads and socks in your package. By the way, if you don't have time to assemble a chemo package on your own then you can simply go with a ready-to-use package from Cancer Care Parcel.

In this regard, you can search for this on Google and order a chemo package from their website. Luckily, this is a UK-based cancer-supporting platform and you will get the package in minimum duration. Hereof, there are several packages available under the 'gift' section of the shop button. I will recommend you choose the 'For Men' option to find the exact packages on Cancer Care Parcel dot com. By the way, Etsy, Amazon, CancerPal and Not Another Bunch of Flowers are also considerable choices in this regard.

  • Thank you ever so much for these helpful suggestions Slight smile
