Discount advice - holidays

Hi everyone, new to this, hope you are all doing okay Blush

Nearly at the end of my 1st set of treatments (radio/chemo/brachyia) & looking at booking a little holiday, somewhere warm for me, the kids & my parents (who have been absolute angels, & wouldn't have been able to get through this without them). Was just wondering if anyone knew if First Choice did a discount or had any discretionary agreement with Macmillan for money off?

Not wanting to seem insensitive, but due to corona, holidays being cancelled, my husband leaving, and then finding out I had cancer (it's been a fun 3yrs), we haven't had a holiday & while raising bills, not being able to work & constantly battling with the benefits agency to remind them I'm not working due to cancer, not a stubbed toe, I have refused to dip into the holiday fund, as that's for my kids.

So if anyone does know of any codes, vouchers, money off, it would be gratefully received

Thanks, stay strong Muscle

  • Hi , a holiday in the sun sounds great. I am not allowed to have any significant sun exposure due to my years of chemo and radiotherapy so our choices are reduced but we are just home from a week in Sunny Surrey to see the granddaughters and it was great.

I see you have put your question to our Information Advisers so let’s see what they can find for you but do allow two working days for a reply.

I have not heard of anything like this but let’s hope you find something.

I will however highlight the need to get good comprehensive Travel Insurance in place before you book anything. This unfortunately may be harder than you think as once you are on the cancer rollercoaster things tend to get more complicated and more expensive.

The best results are found by calling companies direct as you often don’t give you clear answers. I had to be two years in remission before I could get a quote that was not more expensive than the holiday but it could just be down to my treatment and type of cancer.

Have a look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread in our Travel insurance group as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are. Clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. You might also want to look at this thread as it includes a link to a Travel Insurance Directory.

    All the best.

  • Thank you so much for that advice. I know I'm not allowed in the sun, I was going to be in the shade with my factor 50Joy the only non-orange scouserJoy But just the thought of a warm breeze, & seeing the kids & my mum & dad enjoying themselves by the pool - maybe a cheeky cocktail (can't even remember the last time I had a drink - I'd probably get drunk off a sniff of lager nowStuck out tongue winking eye. Tbh, I've got a feeling I'll probably need a bit more treatment, but it's just nice to have a little something to look forward to Hugging

Thanks for the insurance advice, I hadn't even thought about thatFlushed Probably cost more than the holidaySee no evilJoy Maybe I should just put it on hold...againConfoundedCry
