My wife has gall bladder cancer and is currently having chemo. We are trying to find travel insurance but have been unsuccessful. Staysure was suggested but they have declined. We have a cruise booked for October which we are really hoping we can go on to finally get a good break away from all the trials and tribulations of the diagnosis and treatment that you will all appreciate.
hope you can help us with recommendations on travel insurance providers that will cover us.
best wishes to you all.
Hi Tillys Dad
A cruise sounds lovely but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have a cancer diagnosis
As the online community is divided up into different support groups can I recommend that you join us over in the travel insurance group where you can see recommendations from others who have successfully obtained travel insurance. If you'd like to do that just click on the link I've created.
Once you've joined the travel insurance group, look for the thread called 'recommended travel insurance', which is always on the first page of the discussions list, as it's where the majority of recommendations from other forum members are.
It's best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.
Also make sure you have all the information to hand about your wife's diagnosis and treatment before contacting the insurers. This is a list of things an insurance provider might want to know when you're applying for insurance. Some providers might ask for a letter from your wife's doctor saying that she is well enough to travel. This could come from her cancer team or from his GP.
Do come back and let us know how you get on.
