My dad has just been told he has stomach cancer at the top of his stomach and it has entered his oesophagus and about 4 lymph nodes , the cancer is pretty big, it has not gone to his liver or any other organs, the doctor he saw said if he had surgery he would die on the operating table, with chemo the doctor said do u want to be feeling sick in and out of hospital then feel normal and then start bring sick all over again, the news is so devastating its hurts so much, I just cant understand if its not gone to his liver and other organs why cant they operate, I'm thinking about a second opinion not that would probably change anything but surely u have to try and never give up, just want some advice on what people think, and if a second opinion is a good idea how do I go about it thanks
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm very sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer and it's natural to want to seek opinions as to what you should do next.
I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you join the stomach cancer group and post your question there as you'll then be making contact with others with stomach cancer, or their family. They might be able to share their experiences with you. If you'd like to do that just click on the link I've created and then join and post just like you did when you joined this group.
Macmillan have this information on getting a second opinion which tells you how to go about it and the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. You might find reading it helps you and your dad to decide whether to do this or not.
When you have a minute, it would be great if you could pop something about your dad's journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I’m in exactly the same position with my mum lovely (other than where it’s spread to somewhere different with my mum) but not to any organs like your dad. It’s heartbreaking and im wanting another opinion but fearful they will say the same
it’s awful and I wish there was something they could do it’s heartbreaking
