Good morning, I'm new here so hello
Just looking for some advice, help if anyone has been in a similar situation to myself. So just had an appointment with my Oncologist to discuss next steps in my treatment.
Some background- I was diagnosed in August with Dutal Carcinoma Stage 2, Her2 positive and estrogen positive, it was 14mm
I had surgery a lumpectomy and removal of 2 lymph nodes in September. Got my results and have clear margins and nothing has traveled to my lymph nodes.
So they initially told me I would need 6 rounds of chemo and herceptin. Then Radiotherapy and Tomaxifen.
So Oncologist today said that there is only a 1% chance of this returning in the next 15 years if I have Chemo and it's not really work putting my body through the short and long term side effects.
So it's Radiotherapy and Tamoxifen if I decide not to have Chemo. What does everything think? My head it wrecked thinking about this. Do I take the risk with such a low risk??
Hi SJ19
I am sorry you have breast cancer and are getting different information from different people. I am one of the community champions here. I completely understand how it messes with your head trying to grapple with these things. As patients we are never the experts and always hope to be given clear and consistent information by those who are the experts. One of the things I have noticed during my own ‘journey’ is that the NHS has specialists who tend to stick in their own lane. So if the initial information came from the breast surgeons and the later information from oncology, then I would say oncology are the experts in the risks and benefits of chemo. If you can get another appointment with them to go back round why they are making this recommendation, and why it differs from what was said before, it might be helpful to you.
